Gaps in Hospital Alcohol Use Disorder Management: From Withdrawal to Pharmacotherapy

The hospitalist plays a crucial role in caring for patients with alcohol use disorder (AUD), particularly during hospitalizations for acute alcohol withdrawal -- an opportune moment to engage patients. In this webinar by the Substance Use Disorders SIG, speakers will draw on two recent publications to highlight potential options to improve inpatient AUD management. They will review variation in protocolized AUD management order sets for and explore the low rates of prescribing FDA-approved medications for AUD, particular naltrexone, with discussion of common misconceptions that act as barriers to further uptake.
