The SHM Susquehanna Basin Chapter is hosting a virtual meeting on Thursday, January 22nd at 7:00 p.m. ET. Please join the chapter to meet and network with other hospitalists in your community and for an educational presentation with Q&A on Cardio-Hepatorenal Syndrome provided by Dr. Julien Sanon. Hospitalists frequently manage patients with simultaneous cardiac congestion, hepatic dysfunction, and renal injury; yet bedside approaches remain inconsistent and organ-specific. This session will review practical and evidence-based strategies for evaluating and managing cardiorenal and hepatorenal syndrome in hospitalized patients. Using an integrated heart- liver- kidney framework, we will focus on assessment of congestion and targeted therapies to manage patients.
Julien Sanon, MD, MPH, LDN, Dipl.ABOM, HF-Cert, works as a hospitalist at Jefferson Lehigh Valley Health Network, a nephrologist at WellSpan Health, a Clinical Assistant Professor at Thomas Jefferson University, and as an Assistant Professor at the USF Morsani College of Medicine. Board-certified in internal medicine, nephrology, and obesity medicine; he holds an HFSA heart failure certification, a nutrition license, and AI executive education certifications in Digital Healthcare Transformation and Leadership in AI from Harvard, Johns Hopkins, and the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. He has contributed to publications in the cardiorenal and hepatorenal field with the American Journal of Cardiology, International Journal of Cardiology, Reviews in Cardiovascular Medicine, and Current Problems in Cardiology.
Learning objectives:
1. Identify patterns driving cardio-hepatorenal dysfunction and distinguish between cardiorenal and hepatorenal physiology
2. Apply an integrated approach including congestion assessment, lab interpretation, and imaging to guide management
3. Implement evidence-based therapeutic strategies to optimize volume status, improve organ perfusion, and prevent multiorgan deterioration
