The SHM Boston/Eastern Massachusetts Chapter will be hosting an in-person event on Tuesday, May 6th at 6:00 p.m. ET at Branch Line Restaurant in Watertown, MA. Please join us to meet and network with other hospitalists in your community and for an educational presentation titled "Towards a Medical Superintelligence: The Implications of Rapidly Improving Reasoning AI Models for Hospital Medicine". Large language models, and now so-called "reasoning" models, appear to have superhuman performance, including several tasks essential to hospital medicine, like history taking, making difficult diagnoses, and even recommending treatments. What is hype? What is real? Where are things going? And how will these technologies affect the future of hospital medicine? Dr. Adam Rodman, hospitalist and artificial intelligence researcher at BIDMC, will address all this and more.
Adam Rodman, MD, MPH is a general internist and medical educator at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and an assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is the Director of AI Programs for the Carl J. Shapiro Center for Education and Research, and he leads the task force for the integration of AI into the medical school curriculum. He is also an associate editor at NEJM AI. His research focuses on medical education, clinical reasoning, integration of digital technologies, and human-computer interaction, especially with AI. His first book is titled Short Cuts: Medicine, and he is the host of the American College of Physicians podcast Bedside Rounds.
