Thank you to all who were able to join us for a great discussion on Implicit Bias led by Dr. Jorge Ganem on May 2nd. Dr. Ganem highlighted the demographics of medical schools and practicing physicians and how they vary from the patients we are serving. We discussed differences in leadership positions in hospitals, groups, divisions based on gender and race. We also reviewed studies showing discordant treatment of patients  with asthma in emergency rooms based on race. Finally participants reflected on their own experiences with implicit bias in the healthcare system and ways that we can prompt change in our professional roles and patient care.
