The SHM Iowa Chapter is pleased to collaborate with the ACP Iowa Chapter and The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine for the upcoming Progress 2025 Conference being held in-person, October 9-10, 2025 at the Hilton Garden Inn in West Des Moines, IA. Emphasizing the interprofessional team approach to patient care, the annual Progress conference combines internal medicine and pharmacy continuing education programs into a single multi-track program offering plenary sessions, breakout sessions, and hot topics in a combined interprofessional format. This conference will discuss practice changing diagnostic and therapeutic changes in a wide range of clinical medicine.

The SHM Iowa Chapter will be hosting a Scientific Abstract Competition and lunch at Progress 2025 on Thursday, October 9th from 11:45 a.m.-1:00 p.m. CT.

Abstract submissions are now being accepted for SHM's poster session at Progress 2025: Learning Together in the 21st Century, which takes place from 11:45 a.m.-1:00 p.m. CT on Thursday, October 9, 2025 onsite at the Hilton Garden Inn, West Des Moines, IA (please note the change of city). We are accepting abstract submissions in three categories: research, innovations, and clinical vignettes.

Abstracts are eligible for submission if they will not be published in a peer‐reviewed journal prior to December 31, 2025. Abstracts published in meeting proceedings or other materials that are not copyrighted are eligible for submission. It is the responsibility of the submitter to check on whether material is copyrighted. Meeting registration is not required to present a poster or submit an abstract.

Instructions regarding the virtual poster presentation will be provided by email upon notification of abstract selection. Awards and prizes will be announced during Progress 2025. Judges will consider not only the quality of the initial abstract submission but also the quality of the poster and presenting author’s discussion of their work during the poster session. The overall winning poster will receive automatic acceptance to the National Scientific Abstract Competition taking place during SHM’s annual Conference, Converge, March 29-April 1, 2026 in Nashville, TN and will be required to submit their abstract to the national submission site by the November 24, 2025 deadline in order to be accepted.
