SHM Kentucky Chapter Virtual Conference 1549
SHM Kentucky Chapter Virtual Conference
1
The SHM Kentucky Chapter will be hosting a virtual conference on Thursday, December 8th at 4:00 p.m. ET titled "A Multidisciplinary Approach to Management of Patients with Infective Endocarditis at the University of Kentucky". Infective endocarditis is a life-threatening infection of the cardiac valves associated with significant in-hospital morbidity and mortality. As a result of the effects of the opioid epidemic, a significant proportion of patients with endocarditis admitted to the University of Kentucky have concomitant substance use disorder. In order to better coordinate between the multiple medical specialties involved in caring for this population and to improve patient outcomes the University of Kentucky formed a multidisciplinary endocarditis team in September 2021. In order to provide additional information to other hospital throughout the state of Kentucky this conference will share the combined expertise of the team with interactive talks from specialists in the fields of infectious diseases, addiction medicine, cardiac surgery, cardiology and neurology.
