Heartland Hospital Medicine Conference 2025 2528
Heartland Hospital Medicine Conference 2025
1

The Society of Hospital Medicine is pleased to collaborate with the University of Kentucky Division of Hospital Medicine for this year's annual Heartland Hospital Medicine Conference (HHMC), taking place Thursday, August 21st, and Friday, August 22nd, at the Hyatt Regency in Lexington, KY. Hospitalists are the largest subspecialty of Internal Medicine and are front-line providers of care delivery for hospitalized patients with a broad array of diagnoses. The vast majority of hospitals in the United States rely on hospitalists for clinical care delivery, and hospitalists are increasingly responsible for advancing evidence-based medicine for patients who may lack sufficient access to primary care physicians and subspecialists. Staying up to date with current medical literature is a continual challenge for hospitalists. To meet this need, the HHMC will deliver pertinent updates in clinical evidence as well as innovative practice patterns to help participants deliver the best, most high-value, most efficient care possible.

Kentucky has a large and growing number of hospitalists; the surrounding states have hundreds more. The HHMC provides a single, centrally-located event for hospitalists from around the heartland region to gather, network, and learn from regional experts about the latest developments in Hospital Medicine. The course directors are Drs. Sarah Vick and Joseph Sweigart. Dr. Vick is a teaching attending at the University of Kentucky and she is an expert clinician educator with leadership roles in medical student, resident, and faculty education. Dr. Sweigart is a direct care hospitalist at the University of Kentucky and he currently serves on Society of Hospital Medicine's Board of Directors.

The SHM Kentucky Chapter conducts its annual abstract competition at the Heartland Hospital Medicine Conference, which will take place on August 21, 2025 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. The deadline for submission to the competition is July 28, 2025 and acceptance notifications will be sent on August 5, 2025. The highest-scoring poster overall will receive automatic acceptance to the National Scientific Abstract Competition taking place at SHM's Annual Conference, Converge, March 29th - April 1st, 2026 in Nashville, TN. The abstract must be submitted to SHM's National online submission website before the deadline to qualify.
