Multi-Site Leaders SIG Focus Group -- Navigating the Shifting Terrain of Healthcare: An Exploration of Two Emerging Trends
The Multi-Site Leaders SIG is excited to partner with Dr. Marisha Burden and her colleagues at UC Denver for an upcoming session on: “Navigating the Shifting Terrain of Healthcare: An Exploration of Two Emerging Trends”
Please be aware that this session is an opportunity to participate in a QI project focus group where your perspectives and experiences will be used to advance hospital medicine. You can read below for more details and how the information will be collected. You MUST REGISTER for the session beforehand to participate
Hospital medicine is at a crossroads facing numerous challenges including high clinical workloads, hospitals are increasingly facing financial challenges, and the academic mission may feel threatened. On top of these emerging trends there are two notable newer trends: (1) an increasing corporate ownership of healthcare systems or physician groups, including private equity and venture capital, and (2) an emerging trend of workforce organizing efforts (i.e., unionization). In this session, we aim to understand the experience of hospitalists with these two emerging trends. Because hospitalists have typically been employed by either health systems or staffing companies, they have been at the forefront of experiencing the impact of these healthcare trends on the workforce.
Specific aims:
1. Explore participant perception of the drivers of two predominant trends within healthcare (increasing corporate ownership of healthcare systems or physician groups, including private equity and venture capital and clinician organizing).
2. Understand the perceived influence of these trends on the healthcare workforce, patients, and organizations.
3. Understand how leaders and hospitalists are conceptualizing how leaders are thinking about these trends.
