QI Methods: Role in Hospital Medicine

Please join the Quality Improvement SIG for a talk with Dr. Sandhya Tagaram. Medicine is a complex field and careful reevaluation at every step is essential to improve the quality of healthcare and to promote patient safety. To provide safe, timely, effective, efficient, and equitable patient-centered care, the team should be able to:
  1. Analyze the situations and challenges precisely,
  2. Assess the readiness of team and organization for goal alignment and change initiation,
  3. Make mindful decisions making by effectively balancing ethics, values and facts.

We’re excited to launch another year of our Hospital Medicine Quality Improvement Special Interest Group, where clinicians at all stages of their improvement journeys come together to solve real-world challenges. In odd-numbered months, we’ll host interactive brainstorming sessions—rapid PDSA ideation, fishbone analyses, process-flow redesign—and we invite you to bring any pilot, thorny problem, or emerging metric you’d like to workshop. Simply reply if you’d like to present at a future meeting.

In even-numbered months, we’ll feature guest experts discussing strategies to optimize length of stay without compromising safety; targeted DMAIC approaches to reduce readmissions; best practices in QI methods, data collection, and high-impact data presentation (run charts, control charts, etc.); and the latest sepsis recognition bundles and real-time huddle tactics using SIRS/NEWS alerts to accelerate antibiotic delivery.

Regular attendance not only expands your network of fellow change-agents, but also delivers practical tools you can apply at the bedside immediately. Watch for our calendar invite on the third Tuesday of each month and RSVP to save your spot. Have an idea for a topic or speaker? Just hit “reply” and share your suggestions. We look forward to collaborating, learning, and driving better patient outcomes together—one month at a time.
