Opioid Use Disorder is a national epidemic with more people dying of opioid overdose than ever before. It is important for us as healthcare providers to have the ability to counter this epidemic by treating opioid addiction effectively. As we prescribe opioids on a routine basis while caring for patients, we should also be in a position to treat opioid addiction. This is an exciting opportunity for us to learn how to treat opioid addiction by obtaining a buprenorphine waiver. This is required by law to prescribe buprenorphine, which is the standard of care for treatment of moderate to severe opioid use disorder. The goal of this training would allow inpatient providers to prescribe a few days of buprenorphine as a bridge prior to seeing their outpatient buprenorphine providers. This will help outpatient providers to treat opioid addiction on a continuing basis without lapses in the treatment of our patients.
